Course
Description
This is the second oldest golf course in the Algarve. Set
in an umbrella pinewood and laid out in an interesting way
to take advantage of the natural contours. It is from the
English school of Course design. The first Holes are easy
and inviting with reachable par-4s. The par-3 on the attractive
fourth is a Hole in One potential. Club selection from here
will play an important part of your game, and straight shots
will be needed. The ninth is an excellent example of this
situation. The back nine has three interesting par-5s. The
sixteenth providing a 522 metre challenge for good length
and straight hitting.
The Old Course (ex.Vilamoura l) was inaugurated in 1969.
Its project was Frank Pennink's first one in Portugal, and
we can understand why he was invited to design and project
other courses in our country.
This is a golf course that winds its way through umbrella
pine woods in a most natural way. It is the English school
of course design. The beginning of the round is apparently
easy and inviting, with an easy par 4 - for those who keep
the ball on the fairway - the green of which can be reached
with a good drive.
Of the par 3's we would highlight the 4th played over a small
lake, and the 15th, with a green, which is difficult to reach.
However, the "flavour" of The Old Coursel is undoubtedly
the back nine par-5 holes - four in all of which the l6th
is the best.

Comment
One of my favourites - a course for the serious golfer.
Narrow fairways, strategically placed bunkers, greens with
the most subtle of borrows mean you must treat this course
with the utmost respect. Nevertheless, absolutely beautiful,
you can just enjoy the walk!

25 kms from Faro airport. Look out for Vilamoura signposts
