Course
Description
The architect of the Laguna golf Course (ex. Vilamoura 3)
was Joseph Lee, together with William Roquemore. They designed
three nine-hole courses, the main difficulties being water
hazards - ten different lakes. Bermuda grass was chosen for
the fairways.
The Laguna Golf Course is a par 72 in all
three 18-hole combinations, with the second par 3 of the course
being one of its best holes, as well as the 9th of the first, vwhere
water is always a threat, from tee to green. In stark contrast
to its two sister courses, Laguna is without pines and, as
the name suggests, incorporates water hazards in its fairly
flat layout.
The 18 Holes have been laid out over level
ground and with the exception of the eleventh and twelve that
take the player around and over a lake, it is open fairways
for the player with very few trees to present difficulties.
It is a course that can be likened to some degree to the challenges
that are provided by a Links course. However, there are a
many water hazards with strategically placed bunkers in open
terrain. These factors combined with the occasional strong
wind make for an interesting round.
